Music and Lyrics by Casey Rochefort
Nevermore will you feel my touch
Nevermore will you laugh around me
Nevermore will I cry... just SCREAM
Nevermore Nevermore
You're down and out for the final count
A dead end route to oblivion
Get your lazy ass outta bed right now
There's a lesson called life you'd better learn somehow
Better think fast there's no turning around
This is your loss no relenting now
You ruined my life, what is the point?
Of going on if we aren't joined?
This song went through a series of changes before we all decided this was mutually our most agreeable favorite version. The original cut was all synthesizer but it lacked a certain timbre; a certain "crunch" that emoted the exact feeling of the song.
That feeling being that of nearing the end of somewhat bitter divorce. I remember clearly the day I wrote certain songs, and this is one of them. I had called my wife/ex-wife/bringer-of-heartache to go over some financial something or other... she snapped at me for waking her up. She sounded a little like she didn't want to wake someone up. My mind began churning out possibilities (which by the way were exactly right)and this song poured out of me in the very heat of jealous rage.
Infuriated, I finished the music and lyrics in one fell swoop. It couldn't have been more than two hours and at the end I felt a quote from Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven would be in order.
"And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted nevermore..."
