Moment

Music and Lyrics by Casey Rochefort

Experience a moment froze in time
A cold admittance to the past you left behind
Behold this moment, gallery of love
That's left in shambles now that push has come to shove

You are gonna pay for your mental crimes
Whatcha gonna say to the jury in your mind?
If you could only die several thousand times
I could say goodbye to this moment's bind

Enjoy this moment phantasmic as it is
Destroyed emotion fabricating sins
Residing torment, angels never win
Your effervescence is coming to its end

Tear apart the memories gone by
Maybe you'll see the reasons that I wonder why
The days go by I stay up all night
Cause you might call me up to tell me it's all right
But that's a moment that I'll never see
You found another soul to ruin just like me
I only hope that deep inside you know
All my civility is only just for show
This moment's heavy, my patience getting thin
Becoming capable of chasing mortal sin
My heel's on the edge about to take the dive
The best revenge I see is being left alive

You are gonna pay for your mental crimes
Whatcha gonna say to the jury in your mind? (GUILTY)
If you could only die several thousand times
I could say goodbye to this moment's bind

I riffed this song out on one of the random keyboards in the Lab one night and the poetry just spilled into it. The lyrics changed fairly drastically before making the album... as with many of our songs. As always it was a song about my emotional turmoil during the divorce process which by now you're probably tired of hearing about.
Even with its simplistic rhyme scheme, I was rather pleased with the flow of the content in this one. I was able to cleverly convey my feelings in a catchy rhyme.
The bass line always had me covered in goosebumps, though it ended up getting toned down way too much in the final mix. Oh well. We tried to calibrate the sound for the "slightly above average stereo system" so things didn't always turn out to be perfect in our eyes...
